Originally from Waitakere, Cora-Allan is an artist and curator, who has focused the last few years on extending the lineage of Hiapo, Niuean Barkcloth. In recognition of this dedication, she was awarded the Creative New Zealand Pacific Heritage award in 2020. Cora-Allan attended the McCahon House Residency and the Wellington International Artist Residency Te Whare Hera in 2021. She is a founding member of BC Collective and has exhibited work across Aotearoa and internationally. Whakapapa communicated through the intergenerational transmission of knowledge is a central theme throughout Cora-Allan’s multidisciplinary practice. Her work with natural materials expressed through Hiapo is contributing to a rich legacy of art practitioners that go back centuries and stretch across Te Moana Nui a Kiwa.
