Piupiu Maya Turei
Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, Rangitāne me Te Atihaunui-a-Pāpārangi
Piupiu is an artist, curator and mother based in Ōtepoti. She is the Facilitator of Tini Whetū where she flexes her kaupapa Māori curatorial practice.
Piupiu is strongly engaged in toi Māori landscape of Ōtepoti the attended Te Hapū Oneone national Māori earth pigment hui at Blue Oyster Art Project Space in May 2022.
In Winter of 2022 Piupiu developed a series of mixed media works, E tiramarama ana, for the Pūmanawa exhibition at Hoea! Whare Whakaatu Toi. E tiramarama ana is a celebration and exploration of whakapapa which consists of digital prints, muka, feathers, soil and uku from Pāpāwai.
